Planning Issues In Depth
Are you Ready for Thousands of Planners to Overtake Santa Barbara?
By Jay Higgins, AICP, February 2010
In the fall of 2011, Santa Barbara will again be the host of the California Chapter’s American Planning Association Conference. In years past, conference attendance has topped 2000 people with planners, exhibitors and speakers making up the bulk of the crowd. But it’s also a very important time for elected officians and/or non-planners to gain insight into our profession and the land use issues that are shaping our growth policies. The conference is usually well attended by local elected and appointed officials that make land use policy decisions, as well the staff and directors of many area NGO’s and non-profit advocacy groups. Your local APA board will take on much of the responsibility for planning and staffing the conference and the following announcement from our Section Director, Kim Prillhart, AICP, details the many volunteer positions that are available for the Conference Host Committee, including an exciting opportunity to help create the Conference stamp and logo (please click on the announcement below).
